Attorney John Brandte
Attorney John Brandte comes to the law with a unique set of skills and experience. In 1979, he started in corporate finance at Xerox Corporation in Rochester, New York. He brought with him a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and an MBA from the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Rochester. Since then, he has worked at both large and small firms. John has successfully engaged in a variety of analytical, forecasting and management challenges, and has held positions including Assistant Controller, Vice President of Marketing, and Division Vice President.
Then, more recently, John believed that his father was being unnecessarily held in an institution by his step-mother and her two children from a prior marriage. After retaining an attorney in Florida, he moved his father to New Hampshire to live with him. Eventually, there were three law suits in two states in an attempt by the step-people to regain control of his father. All three law suits eventually failed.
During this time, John’s father encouraged him to become an attorney. Eventually, he agreed with his father, applied to UNH School of Law, was accepted, and on graduation was awarded the 2014 American Bankruptcy Institute Medal of Excellence. During his second semester of law school, in a suit naming both his father and him, he wrote and successfully argued a motion to dismiss. John is now an active member of the New Hampshire and Federal Bar Associations.
Attorney Brandte has seen what can happen to the elderly if they are not properly protected. As a student criminal defense attorney (UNH Law Criminal Practice Clinic and Moir and Rabinowitz) and representing New Hampshire in psychiatric admission cases (New Hampshire Hospital), he has also seen that justice requires that a defendant has competent and engaged counsel. His goal is to provide the best possible counsel, and to help his clients gain peace of mind through understanding the process and having realistic expectations as they consider the moving forward options.
John Brandte is also an active volunteer in the New Hampshire Bar Association Domestic Violence Emergency (DOVE) Project.
John has been a New Hampshire resident since 1999. He lives in Concord, NH with his wife, Kathleen, his younger son, Max, and Kathleen’s younger son, Kevin. John is an active participant in the New Hampshire Kairos Prison Ministry.
